Where These Ceramics Come From?
Country of Origin - China, Ming Dynasty - Dish #5

Shown one of the dishes

Dishes painted in underglazed blue, the mouth flattened and with a raised outer rim that is sometimes foliated, 31-33 centimetres in diameter and approximately 6 centimetres high.  Each is decorated within the full diameter of the centre medallion, with a border at the mouthrim, and on the exterior wails.  The designs vary. The centre medallion often displays two 'dog of fu,' or lion dog with bushy tail, together with two 'cash' emblems. Others show dragons, phoenix or kylin mixed with various pa-pao Buddhist emblems, and cloud collars.  The interior walls are undecorated but sometimes fluted.  Borders include diaper and trellis scrolls.  The exterior walls are often decorated with peach or with floral displays in circular shapes.  While a few best be described as porcellaneous ware.  Intact glaze has a cold bluish tint. That on pieces that have subsequently become slightly degraded, however, shows a more warm, greenish tint. The base is somewhat convex and bits of kiln grit are sometimes seen at the foot.
