SHIPWRECKS:
SCIENTIFIC
TREATMENT METHODS
TREATMENT OF EXCAVATED ARTEFACTS:
Once
shipwreck's artefacts are brought up to air again, it's absolutely
vital that they are properly treated, preserved and stored to ensure
that they do not disintegrate.
- Once the excavated objects
are brought to the surface, they must be immediately submerged
in a fresh water bath or in a special solution to prevent further
deterioration.
- Ceramics need to
have a fresh water bath, but if there is any coral growth on them,
then they will need a special care in removing the coral without
damaging the porcelain. Silver that has a black coating is treated
with electrolysis, and gold just needs a rinse with fresh water
to look as good as new.
